Studio Portrait
In the sixth picture the lighting illuminates half of the model's face. The lighting itself is a little lower than the model's head but it still reaches the top of the head. I really enjoy how half of the face is in the shadow and the other is in the light, it's almost like a split personality, or like two moods. Also since the photo is focused on the head it really catches the eye to look at the lighting. And the head is slightly looking away from the light too so the lighting is exemplified. The photo was taken in a landscape fashion to capture only the head and a little of the background. I was maybe two feet or so from the model and the expression on the model's face is a little serious but also displays a look of someone in thought or day-dreaming. This is different from the first picture where the model is looking towards someone and has a look of humorous behavior. The whole face is illuminated here so that nothing else can be perceived from the unknown.
Self Portrait
I created this set of images using a self timer on my phone where it was propped against something. The shot of me laying down however was taken when I rubber-banded my phone to my ceiling fan. For these shots my body is mostly centered in the frame. In the second picture everything is almost leading towards my body or head. But in the last two the eye is attracted to the book I am reading. These were all taken around the same time in the afternoon where there was still enough sunlight or light for the iso to be around 600 and the shutter speed to be relatively on the faster side. For the last three pictures I wanted to display my running side, so in the first one I compiled some awards and other things to be displayed around me. Also i chose to have my eyes shut to communicate that these are the things i work for or think about getting when I workout. The last two were meant to be more relaxed and goofy where i changed the lighting slightly. In these i wear the medals of three half marathons i finished and I am reading a book about one of the fastest miles ever run. In addition to that i wear a cross country state meet shirt and cross country sunglasses. These photographs show a sillier side to me but also convey that I enjoy to read about what i like to do. In the first picture I am holding a gaming controller that lights up and looking towards a screen, this represents the side of me that enjoys to play video games. These are portraits and not "selfies," because they show more compositional elements in them and they try to expose a little of my personality outside of school.
Double Exposure
For my double exposure i made an image that merged an urban picture with a natural picture. Both objects were composed to have an object in focus in the foreground but show depth in the background. One showed a tree on a trail the other a pole on a narrow street. I modified the tree slightly on the bottom to make a complete shape that had one vertical line instead of a slight curve. The picture with the pole I erased very lightly the edge of the picture to merge smoothly with the picture of the trail. I also made the picture less opaque so that the trail could be seen, but the brickwork still visible. Conceptually both were photos were taken to create examples of aperture. I was hoping to create a feeling that nature and urban life can sometimes clash and that true nature can sometimes be lost. So to make sure nature came out on top I made sure that the trees were the clearer images than the narrow street.
